What changes when the factory owns the line
- Specification changes stay cheap. Adjustments at sample stage are handled in house instead of being re-quoted by a third party between you and the workshop.
- What you approve is what ships. The approved sample becomes the production reference on the line that made it, rather than a drawing handed to an unknown subcontractor.
- One point of responsibility. Materials, hardware, logo work, quality control and packing are all inside one set of doors, so a problem has one owner.
- Your numbers stay yours. Your unit costs, product design and buyer relationships are not visible to an intermediary who also supplies your competitors.
- Inspection is direct. Reports and shipment photos come from the people who made the goods, not from a chain of forwards.
How to tell whether you are dealing with a factory
- Ask for the workshop floor area, line count and workforce — a factory answers with numbers and can walk you through the line layout.
- Ask which processes run in house: cutting, sewing, hardware, embroidery and printing, QC and packing. A short, specific list is a good sign.
- Ask for the sample-to-bulk handover rule: which sample is the production reference, and who signs it off.
- Ask what the pre-shipment inspection standard is — a factory that produces at AQL 2.5 and reports its defect rate is one that inspects rather than assumes.
- Ask for shipment photos, loading records and test reports for a recent order in a similar category.
- Ask about capacity per month and how it is reserved for a repeat programme, so a second order does not slip behind a larger customer.
